Industry Applications

This probe is engineered for high-reliability environments such as turbomachinery, centrifugal compressors, and large pumps. In a typical steam turbine installation, the 330103-00-08-10-01-CN mounts directly into bearing housings to measure shaft radial vibration and axial position. The 2 mm linear range and -9 Vdc recommended gap setting allow for consistent, repeatable readings even under thermal expansion. By providing early warning of shaft displacement, this probe helps prevent catastrophic failures and unplanned downtime.

Installation and Setup Guidance

For optimal performance, mount the probe with the M10x1 thread into a drilled and tapped hole, ensuring the maximum thread engagement of 15 mm is not exceeded. Use the recommended field wiring: 0.2 to 1.5 mm² (16 to 24 AWG) three-conductor shielded triad cable, tinned. Keep the distance between the 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor and the monitor within 305 meters (1,000 feet) to avoid signal roll-off at high frequencies. Set the initial gap to approximately 1.27 mm (50 mils) for radial vibration monitoring.

Maintenance and Reliability

The probe case, made of AISI 303 or 304 stainless steel, resists corrosion in typical industrial atmospheres. The PPS tip offers chemical resistance. While the probe is designed to seal differential pressure via a Viton O-ring, it is not pressure tested before shipment. If your application requires a pressure seal test, contact the custom design department. Avoid exposing the probe to temperatures below -34°C (-30°F) to prevent premature failure of the pressure seal. The probe operates reliably in up to 93% relative humidity with less than 3% change in Average Scale Factor.

Industry Evolution and the Need for Precision

Over the past decades, industrial rotating machinery has grown more complex and demanding. From steam turbines in power plants to compressors in refineries, the need for precise, reliable vibration monitoring has never been greater. The Bently Nevada 3300 XL series has been at the forefront of this evolution, providing engineers with the data needed to predict failures and optimize maintenance. The 330103-00-08-10-01-CN is a direct result of this legacy, offering a robust solution for displacement and vibration measurement in harsh environments.
