Product Description

What Is the Schneider Electric TM3AI4?

How do you capture four analog process signals with one compact expansion module? The Schneider Electric TM3AI4 answers that question. This Modicon TM3 analog input module provides four software-configurable channels for voltage or current signals. Consequently, it suits precise data acquisition in industrial control panels.

Each channel accepts 0-10 Vdc, ±10 Vdc, 0-20 mA, or 4-20 mA. In addition, 12-bit resolution (11 bits plus sign for bipolar ranges) supports accurate measurement. The module therefore integrates directly with Modicon M221, M241, M251, and M262 platforms.

TM3AI4 Key Specifications

  • Input channels: 4, individually configurable via software
  • Signal ranges: 0-10 V, ±10 V, 0-20 mA, 4-20 mA
  • Resolution: 12 bits (11 bits + sign for bipolar)
  • Accuracy: ±0.1% of full scale at 25 °C (±1% FS over temperature)
  • Isolation: 1500 V AC between input and supply; 500 V AC between input and internal logic
  • Supply voltage: 24 Vdc via TM3 bus
  • Bus current: 35 mA at 5 V DC (no load); 45 mA at 5 V DC (full load); 30 mA at 24 V DC
  • Response time: 1 ms conversion + 1 ms per channel + 1 controller cycle

Notably, the 1500 V AC input-to-supply isolation protects sensitive logic from field transients. This engineering-grade precision ensures reliable readings in electrically noisy environments.

Where the TM3AI4 Excels

Process control often demands flexible analog acquisition. Therefore, the TM3AI4 fits applications such as:

  • Monitoring pressure or flow transmitters with 4-20 mA loops
  • Reading 0-10 V signals from temperature or position sensors
  • Interfacing ±10 V bipolar outputs from drives or instrumentation

Because each channel is software configurable, one module can handle mixed signal types. Consequently, you reduce spare-part variety and simplify panel design.

Installation and Integration Notes

The module mounts alongside other TM3 expansion modules. It uses a removable screw terminal block with 3.81 mm pitch for field wiring. Moreover, the compact 90 × 23.6 × 70 mm housing saves DIN-rail space. For integration, connect the TM3 bus to the host controller. Then configure channels through the programming software. Always follow Schneider Electric wiring guidelines for analog signals. When routing into plant networks, confirm gateway or connection module requirements with your supplier.

Reliability and Maintenance

The TM3AI4 operates from 0 to +55 °C and stores from -25 to +70 °C. Its IP20 rating suits clean control cabinets. Periodically inspect terminal tightness and verify channel diagnostics via the module status LEDs. Since the module reports channel, module, and bus status, faults are easy to isolate. This proactive check supports long service life and reduces unplanned downtime.
