IC200MDD849: Inputs and Relay Outputs in One VersaMax Module
The IC200MDD849 combines 8 positive-logic inputs and 8 relay outputs in a single discrete mixed I/O module. The value of a mixed module is slot economy — a machine with both inputs and outputs on the same voltage domain can use one module instead of separate input and output modules, halving the slot count for those points.
The trade-off is that the two halves of the module now share a slot and a backplane footprint, so a fault in either half takes both out. Where inputs and outputs serve unrelated machine functions, that coupling is worth weighing against the slot savings.

Reading the Input and Output Specification
Inputs are 8 positive logic at 0 to 132 V AC, nominal 120 V, 47 to 63 Hz. Outputs are 8 relay/common at 2 A load. Positive logic inputs means the field device closes to energize the input — where a machine uses sinking devices, the configuration has to match or the inputs read inverted.
Where a Mixed Module Is and Is Not the Right Choice
Mixed modules make sense when inputs and outputs share a voltage domain and a functional area — the inputs and outputs of one machine section, for instance. They make less sense when the inputs are safety or monitoring related and the outputs drive the process, because the shared slot becomes a shared failure.
Commissioning the Two Halves Separately
Bring up the input half and the output half independently during commissioning. On a mixed module a single point LED that stays dark is ambiguous — it could be a field device at fault, a wiring error, or a module fault. Verifying each half against its own field devices narrows the fault before the module is replaced.
