Product Description

TSXDSY16T3: A Discontinued 16-Point Sink Output Module for Modicon Premium

The Schneider Electric TSXDSY16T3 is a discrete output module from the Modicon Premium series. It provides 16 transistor outputs configured as sink (NPN), arranged in two groups of eight. Each channel switches 24 V DC at up to 0.5 A, making the module suitable for driving relays, solenoids, and indicator lamps in industrial control panels.

Engineers should note that this module is discontinued. Please verify current lifecycle status and availability with AutoDCSTech before ordering.

Failure Mode Analysis: Protecting the TSXDSY16T3 and Connected Loads

In sink configuration, the TSXDSY16T3 pulls the load to 0 V DC when active. A common failure mode in such circuits is an accidental short to the positive supply rail. The module's electronic overload and short-circuit protection detects this condition and trips automatically. Reactivation occurs only after the fault clears, which prevents repeated stress on the output transistor.

Because the output current is limited to 0.5 A per channel, engineers must verify that each connected load stays within this rating. Inductive loads, such as relays or solenoids, should have flyback diodes to clamp voltage spikes. Without them, the 1.2 ms response time may be affected by inductive kickback, and the output stage could degrade over time.

The 1500 V AC channel-to-bus isolation and >10 MΩ insulation resistance at 500 V provide a verified barrier between field wiring and the backplane. This isolation is critical when the module operates near variable-frequency drives or other noise sources. However, the IP20 rating means the module requires a clean, dry control cabinet environment.

Integrating the TSXDSY16T3 into Modicon Premium Systems

The module occupies one slot in a Modicon Premium rack and draws 80 mA from the 5 V DC backplane. Field power comes from a separate 24 V DC supply. When replacing a failed unit, confirm that the rack backplane can supply the additional bus current. Also check that the existing field wiring matches the sink (NPN) configuration, because a source (PNP) module would require different wiring polarity.
