Product Description

Product Overview of the IC693MDL330F

The IC693MDL330F is an 8-point TRIAC output module from the GE Series 90-30 platform. Originally manufactured by GE Fanuc, the line is now owned by Emerson. This F revision drives 120/240 VAC loads directly from a single backplane slot. Each point handles up to 2 A, so engineers can switch solenoids, contactors, and pilot devices without interposing relays. This part belongs to a discontinued platform (GE Series 90-30), superseded by PACSystems RX3i (IC695 series). We stock remaining new and refurbished units.

IC693MDL330F Electrical and Isolation Specifications

  • Output Points: 8 TRIAC outputs, arranged as two groups of four
  • Output Voltage Range: 85 to 264 VAC at 50/60 Hz
  • Output Current: 2 A maximum per point; 4 A maximum per group at 40 °C
  • Isolation: 1500 V between field side and logic side; 500 V between groups
  • Inrush Current: 20 A maximum for one cycle
  • Minimum Load Current: 100 mA
  • On Response Time: 1 ms maximum
  • Off Response Time: 1/2 cycle maximum
  • Backplane Current: 160 mA from the 5 V bus with all outputs on
  • Protection Rating: IP20

The 1500 V field-to-logic isolation is the defining safety parameter here. It separates high-voltage AC field wiring from the low-voltage backplane, which protects the CPU and reduces noise coupling in mixed cabinets. In addition, the 500 V group-to-group rating lets two independent AC circuits share one module without a common reference. For maintenance engineers, that isolation margin is the first thing to verify when a module is suspected of causing erratic CPU behavior.

Failure Modes and Reliability in Service

TRIAC outputs fail in predictable ways. A shorted TRIAC leaves the load energized even when the logic commands it off, which is dangerous on motor starters and heaters. An open TRIAC produces no output at all, often after repeated inrush stress. Because the IC693MDL330F allows 20 A inrush for one cycle, high-inrush loads such as incandescent lamps and small contactors accelerate wear. Consequently, verify that each load stays within the 2 A per-point limit and the 4 A per-group limit at 40 °C. The 100 mA minimum load current matters too. Below that threshold, a TRIAC may fail to latch on, so very small pilot loads can appear intermittent. Always size loads inside the verified window before condemning the module.

Installation and Service Notes

Mount the module in a Series 90-30 rack and confirm the backplane draws 160 mA from the 5 V bus with all outputs on. Keep ambient temperature between 0 and +60 °C and humidity between 5 and 95% non-condensing. The IP20 enclosure protects against finger contact only, so install it inside a suitable cabinet. During service, isolate field power first. Then check group fusing and terminal torque before replacing the module. Because the unit is a single-slot module measuring 124 × 30 × 114 mm, swapping it is straightforward once wiring is labeled.
