IC693PWR321: The Standard Series 90-30 Supply and When It Is Enough
Most Series 90-30 racks never leave the standard power supply family, and the IC693PWR321 is the member that covers the majority of them. It becomes relevant when a rack is being rebuilt or expanded and the supply has to be chosen deliberately rather than inherited.
The distinction that decides the choice is load, not model number. A rack with CPU, memory and a light I/O complement is served by a standard supply; a rack with enough high-density I/O or option modules runs out of +5 V current on a standard supply long before it runs out of wattage — and that condition presents as intermittent I/O drops under load rather than as a clean power fault.
The GE Fanuc IC693PWR321 is a Standard Power Supply module for the Series 90-30 PLC platform. It delivers 30 watts total power with nominal input of 100-240 VAC or 125 VDC. Outputs: 15W @ 5VDC, 20W @ 24VDC isolated, 15W @ +24VDC relay. Discontinued/obsolete.

Running the Load Calculation
Add the current draw of every module in the rack — CPU, each I/O module, memory and any option module — and compare the total against the supply's rated output. The +5 VDC rail has its own protective limit, so an overloaded rail does not simply deliver less: it trips.
Where the total sits close to the limit, the symptom is intermittent I/O drops under load, which gets misdiagnosed as a communication fault or a loose backplane connector. Running the calculation before adding modules is far cheaper than diagnosing that symptom afterwards.
Input Voltage and the Cabinet It Lives In
Confirm the input voltage available at the cabinet before ordering. AC and DC input variants are not interchangeable, and on older installations where supply voltage sags under motor starting load, the measurement at the supply terminals under load matters more than the nominal label.
Replacement Planning
Confirm the rack slot the supply occupies and the total +5 V rail load before ordering. On a platform of this age, availability is worth confirming before committing a downtime window rather than assumed from the model number.
