Product Description

1747-L533: An SLC 5/03 with 32K User Memory and DH-485

The Allen-Bradley 1747-L533 is a SLC 5/03 Processor with 4096 I/O points, 32K user memory, and DH-485/RS-232 communication. Ideal for small process control and material handling.

The 1747-L533 is an SLC 5/03 processor with 32K of user memory, 4096 I/O points and DH-485 / RS-232 communication. Against the SLC 5/04 and 5/05 family it is the lower-memory option, and it is worth knowing which processor is installed before a replacement — the memory difference is usually the whole question.

4096 I/O points is the capacity ceiling that distinguishes this generation from the earlier SLC 500 processors. On a machine that grew after installation, whether the existing programme fits within 32K is the question that decides between this processor and a higher-memory alternative.

SLC 500 and SLC 5 Processor Family

Processors in this family differ in memory capacity, I/O capacity and instruction set. The capacity determines how much programme fits; the instruction set determines what the programme can do:

1747 Part Number Processor / Module Function
1747-L532 SLC 500 family processor or module — confirm memory and instruction set against the application
1747-L541 SLC 500 family processor or module — confirm memory and instruction set against the application
1747-L542 SLC 500 family processor or module — confirm memory and instruction set against the application
1747-L543 SLC 500 family processor or module — confirm memory and instruction set against the application
1747-L551 SLC 500 family processor or module — confirm memory and instruction set against the application
1747-L552 SLC 500 family processor or module — confirm memory and instruction set against the application
1747-L553 SLC 500 family processor or module — confirm memory and instruction set against the application
1747-SDN SLC 500 family processor or module — confirm memory and instruction set against the application
1747-SN SLC 500 family processor or module — confirm memory and instruction set against the application

Memory vs Capability: Know Which One You Need

32K of user memory is enough for a machine whose logic has not grown, and insufficient for one that has. But memory is only half of it — if the new logic needs structured math, indexed addressing or motion features the processor does not provide, more memory on the same processor will not solve it. Those requirements point to a different processor family, which is a platform migration rather than a swap.

DH-485 and RS-232 Together

Having both DH-485 and RS-232 is what makes the processor usable on a retrofit with mixed communication history: an older installation may have RS-232 to a panel or printer while DH-485 carries the network. Confirm which ports the existing system uses before ordering a replacement.
