IC695ALG412: Strain Gauge and Thermocouple Input on One Module
The IC695ALG412 accepts strain gauge signals at ±150 mV or ±50 mV alongside thermocouple types J, K, T, E, R, S, B, N and C. Carrying both on one module is unusual and useful: force, load and displacement measurement conventionally needs a strain gauge amplifier, and temperature needs a thermocouple input — on a machine measuring both, this consolidates them into a single slot.
It is a 12-channel isolated module, and the isolation is per-channel rather than group-wise. On strain gauge measurement that matters more than it does on ordinary analog inputs: strain signals are microvolt-level, and a shared ground path between channels shows up directly as measurement error.

Diagnostics That Catch Silent Measurement Drift
The module provides open-wire, short-circuit and positive/negative over-range diagnostics. On strain gauge work these are the difference between a usable and an unusable measurement: a broken lead in a strain gauge circuit produces a plausible-looking but wrong reading rather than an obvious failure, because the input still sees a voltage.
Where alarm limits depend on the measurement, those diagnostics should be treated as part of the measurement chain rather than as convenience reporting.
Backplane Compatibility Constraint
The module supports universal backplane only and uses the PCI bus. That is a hard compatibility constraint — it will not fit a backplane that lacks the PCI bus structure, so a rack expansion that changes backplane type has to account for modules of this kind.
Thermocouple Cold Junction Compensation
With thermocouple types supported, cold junction compensation is the detail that decides measurement accuracy. A module used only for strain gauge input does not exercise it; a module used for both has to be verified for CJC behaviour as well as for the strain channel accuracy.
