IC695ALG106: Filtered 16-Bit Analog Input for Noisy Signals
The IC695ALG106 is a 6-channel isolated analog input module whose distinguishing feature is the configurable filter set — 8 Hz, 12 Hz, 16 Hz, 40 Hz, 250 Hz and 1000 Hz are available per channel. That is not a minor option: on a signal with any AC component, the filter setting determines whether the module measures the process value or the noise riding on it.
Signals accepted are ±10 V, 0-10 V, ±5 V, 0-5 V, 1-5 V, 0-20 mA, 4-20 mA and ±20 mA — the full range of both voltage and current instrument signals on one module. Resolution is 16-bit, with data format as floating point IEEE 32 bit or 16-bit integer in a 32-bit field.

Choosing the Filter Setting
The filter trade-off is response time against noise rejection. The low settings (8-40 Hz) give the best noise rejection and are right for slow process signals; the high settings (250-1000 Hz) preserve fast transients and are right where the measurement has genuine dynamic content.
Setting the filter too low on a signal with real dynamic content produces a reading that looks stable and is wrong — the module is averaging away the variation it was installed to capture. Where the process is fast, the filter should be chosen for response rather than for a quiet-looking trace.
Overvoltage and Overcurrent Protection
Overvoltage protection is ±35 VDC and overcurrent protection is ±35 mA. Those limits sit well above the input signal ranges, which is the intent — they are there to absorb a field wiring fault or a disconnected loop, not to clip normal operation.
Isolation and Current Budget
Per-channel isolation means a fault on one loop does not affect the others, which matters where loops are at different ground potentials. Current consumption is 230 mA at 5.0 V, which is the figure to check against the rack backplane budget before populating multiple slots of this module.
