The IC694MDL940 is the 16-point relay output module for the PACSystem RX3i platform. Where Relay Outputs Beat Solid-State Outputs

Solid-state outputs are faster and cheaper, which is why they dominate new designs. Relay outputs remain correct in three cases: inductive loads where switching stress would degrade a transistor, mains voltage switching where the isolation barrier has to be physical, and switching frequencies low enough that contact life is not a constraint.

Where the per-output rating covers the coil directly, no interposing relay is needed — removing a failure point and halving panel depth across a bank of sixteen.

Commissioning One Output at a Time

Energise outputs individually and confirm each field device operates, rather than switching the whole bank. On a 16-point Form A bank this catches mis-mapped output-to-device assignments — the most common commissioning error on relay output modules, and one that otherwise surfaces as an intermittent fault when one device runs out of sequence.
