IC694ALG392: Precision Analog Output on PACSystem RX3i
The IC694ALG392 is an analog output module for the PACSystem RX3i platform, and its role is the inverse of an analog input module: where an input converts a 4-20 mA measurement into a process value, an analog output converts a controller value back into a driveable analog signal.
In practice that means it is the module that holds a control output steady when the process is otherwise steady — a control valve position, a variable speed drive reference, a heater or mixer output. On a process with slow dynamics, the module has to hold its output without drift, because drift in the output path appears directly as process drift.
The GE Fanuc IC694ALG392 is an 8-channel analog output module for PACSystem RX3i. It provides voltage (0-10V, -10-10V) and current (0-20mA, 4-20mA) outputs with 15/16-bit resolution. Features 8ms update rate, open wire fault detection, and compatibility with Series 90-30/90-70 PLCs.

Output Resolution and Process Resolution
Analog output resolution determines the smallest change the module can produce. On a control loop with a narrow deadband, a coarse output step can be larger than the loop can act on — the controller keeps writing new values, the output does not move, and the loop hunts or oscillates for reasons that look like a tuning problem.
Check the module resolution against the resolution the loop needs before ordering, not after commissioning.
Loop Calibration After Replacement
After replacing an analog output module, verify the loop end to end rather than trusting the module report. The useful check is a manual command at a few points across the output range, measuring the actual signal at the field device. That confirms the output, the wiring and the field device together, and separates a module problem from a field-side one in a single pass.
Output Isolation and Shared-Return Risk
Where multiple analog outputs share a return path, a fault on one output circuit can appear across the others. Confirm the isolation arrangement of the module being fitted against the field wiring, and avoid sharing returns between outputs that drive independent control loops.
