Yokogawa 2026 OpreX Releases: What EJX S, CI Server and GD80 Actually Announced

Yokogawa released three OpreX industrial automation products in 2026, but they did not arrive as a cluster. The OpreX Pressure Transmitter EJX S Series was announced on 26 February 2026, the enhanced OpreX Collaborative Information Server on 10 June 2026, and the new OpreX Gas Density Meter on 16 October 2026 — three releases spread across roughly eight months, or about one per quarter. Two of the three are also narrower than the headline suggests: the EJX S is described in Yokogawa's own release as the successor to the EJX A lineup rather than an upgrade of it, and the gas density meter's explosion-proof versions are not on sale until the end of April 2027.

For buyers, engineers and maintenance planners the practical detail sits in the option codes and the gaps. The EJX S accuracy figure of ±0.025% applies only with optional specification code /HAC. The release states SIL2 compliance and does not state SIL3. The communication protocols named are HART and PROFINET. And the gas density meter announcement carries no accuracy, measurement range or repeatability figures at all. Below is what each release actually says, what it does not say, and what that means for spare-parts and retrofit planning.

Key takeaways

  • Three releases, three quarters. EJX S on 26 February, CI Server on 10 June, gas density meter on 16 October 2026 — a steady cadence, not a dense burst.
  • EJX S is a successor line, not an EJX A firmware bump. Yokogawa publishes no model-by-model replacement matrix and no drop-in part-number mapping in the release.
  • The headline accuracy is optional. ±0.025% requires specification code /HAC; long-term stability ±0.1% per 20 years and rangeability up to 400:1 are stated as series figures.
  • The CI Server update is an HMI-layer change. Direct access to CENTUM VP HIS windows, multi-model OPC UA for third-party equipment, and a CIS Benchmark-based IT Security Tool.
  • The gas density meter is a hydrogen story with a certification delay. GD80 / GD802G ship now; the IECEx and ATEX converter, GD802S, is planned for the end of April 2027.
  • Nothing in the three releases changes existing installed-base spares. EJX A, GD40-era density meters and CENTUM VP station hardware remain the parts you actually order.

The three 2026 OpreX releases, dated correctly

Each product sits in a different OpreX family, and the availability dates differ from the announcement dates. That distinction matters when you are timing a specification.

Product Announced Available from OpreX family What the release calls it
OpreX Pressure Transmitter EJX S Series 26 Feb 2026 9 Mar 2026 in Southeast Asia, China, North and South America, Europe, Oceania, Middle East, Africa and India; Japan from September 2026 OpreX Field Instruments (OpreX Measurement) Successor to the EJX A lineup
OpreX Collaborative Information Server 10 Jun 2026 Enhanced version released 12 Jun 2026 OpreX Control and Safety Systems (OpreX Control) Latest version, not a new product
OpreX Gas Density Meter (GD80 detector, GD802G and GD802S converters) 16 Oct 2026 Non-explosion-proof from 16 Oct 2026; IECEx and ATEX versions planned end of April 2027 OpreX Analyzer lineup New product replacing existing models launched in 1997

EJX S: a successor line, and the numbers that are optional

The EJX S Series builds on the silicon resonant sensor technology Yokogawa introduced in a differential pressure and pressure transmitter for the first time in the world in 1991, and which the company says it has refined for more than 30 years. The release frames the change as a response to stricter regional regulation, more diverse supply chains, labour shortages and environmental rules — that is, to the operating economics of maintaining a plant, not only to measurement performance.

Parameter Stated by Yokogawa What to check before you specify
Accuracy ±0.025% with optional specification code /HAC The standard accuracy class is not stated in the release. A tender that asks for ±0.025% is asking for a priced option.
Long-term stability ±0.1% per 20 years A proof-of-action interval claim of this length changes calibration budgets, but the release gives no test conditions.
Rangeability Up to 400:1 "Up to" — per-model figures are not published in the release.
Communication HART and PROFINET FOUNDATION Fieldbus, PROFIBUS DP, Ethernet/IP and Modbus are not named. Match this to your plant bus before assuming a swap.
Ingress protection IP68 Stated for the series; installation conditions are not detailed.
Functional safety Compliance with SIL2 requirements The release states SIL2 and explains SIL levels in a footnote. SIL3 is not stated, so treat dealer pages claiming SIL2/SIL3 as unconfirmed.
Display New colour backlit graphic display; NAMUR NE107-compliant alert indications Colour-coded alarms are a walk-down and inspection-time benefit, not a measurement benefit.
Mechanical and power Dual power connections, explosion-proof standard compliance and advanced diagnostics as standard; modular design for parts replacement Yokogawa says this reduces the need to order products with specific model and suffix codes — useful for inventory, but no part-number cross-reference is published.
Lineup completeness "Yokogawa will continue to add new models with enhanced capabilities to the EJX S lineup" The series does not yet cover every measurement need the EJX A catalogue does.

Two target-application notes from the release are worth repeating because they define where the EJX S will actually be sold: oil and gas, LNG, downstream, chemicals, power, renewable energy, food and pharmaceuticals, pulp and paper, iron and steel, mining and metals, water and wastewater; and the measurement of liquid level, flow and pressure for liquids, gases and steam in tanks and pipes.

If you are commissioning transmitters on either protocol, the tools side of the job does not change with a new series. A YHC5150X FieldMate handheld communicator is still the practical way to set, document and verify a HART transmitter on a new installation, and the same instrument family covers the Sensors & Instrumentation range already in stock.

CI Server: what "multi-vendor integration" actually means

The 10 June release is a version increment to an existing product in the Yokogawa OpreX Control and Safety Systems range, and all three of its stated features are about the operator layer rather than the control layer. The enhanced version shipped two days later, on 12 June 2026.

Stated enhancement What the release says it does Why it matters for a spares plan
Integrated HMI with HIS-like operability Operators can directly access specific operation and monitoring windows of CENTUM VP's human interface station (HIS), keeping the same functions, screen configurations and operability; screens from connected systems can be shown through a remote desktop This lowers the barrier to consolidating operator stations, which shifts demand from HIS consoles toward general-purpose industrial PCs, HMIs & Operator Panels and Operator Terminals.
Multi-model OPC UA server information model The OPC UA server information model function now supports using multiple information models when connecting to equipment from different vendors, easing differences in device and system configuration and improving application development efficiency This is the concrete content of "multi-vendor integration". OPC UA is standardised internationally in 2018 under IEC 62541; the practical constraint on a mixed-vendor plant is usually the network, so budget for Ethernet Switches and Communication Modules.
IT Security Tool based on CIS Benchmarks CI Server now supports Yokogawa's IT Security Tool, a security configuration package based on the CIS Benchmarks published by the Center for Internet Security, which hardens the Windows computers running CI Server Hardening changes a Windows image, which changes what a rebuild needs. Keep the platform and its Power Supplies and storage serviceable, because an HMI layer with no spare is a single point of failure for visibility.

Read together, the CI Server update and the CISA 2030 strategy article point the same way: the operator interface is becoming the place where security obligations and multi-vendor reality meet. Yokogawa's own 2026 calendar supports that reading — the 8 April release reports that CENTUM VP, ProSafe-RS and related software received cybersecurity certification, and the 16 April release reports certification to the O-PAS standard's OPC UA profile, which Yokogawa describes as an industry first. Neither is a product launch, but both change what a buyer can specify.

The gas density meter is a hydrogen-cooled turbine product

Yokogawa's gas density meters calculate density, specific gravity, molecular weight, concentration and calorific value by measuring a resonance frequency that changes with gas density. The existing models have been sold since 1997 into power generation, oil and gas, and steel production, with cumulative shipments exceeding 6,600 units — an installed base that is itself the more interesting commercial fact.

The stated use case is specific. Large turbine generators are cooled with hydrogen to suppress heat from high-speed rotation, and hydrogen becomes explosive when mixed with oxygen above a certain concentration, so monitoring hydrogen concentration is a safety function. The release ties growth in this market to rising electricity demand, partly attributed to the rapid growth of data centres, and separately points to methanation and water electrolysis as expanding applications for monitoring a wider variety of gases.

Model Role Availability stated in the release
GD80 Gas density meter detector On sale from 16 Oct 2026 as part of the non-explosion-proof configuration
GD802G Gas density meter converter On sale from 16 Oct 2026 (non-explosion-proof)
GD802S Explosion-proof gas density meter converter IECEx and ATEX versions planned for the end of April 2027

The three stated features are: vibration-based measurement that can identify a change in gas composition in as little as five seconds, with the release noting it can measure the concentration of binary gas mixtures such as hydrogen and air, or carbon dioxide and hydrogen; a colour touchscreen plus digital communication based on Ethernet and RS-485; and IECEx and ATEX compliance for the explosion-proof variants. What the release does not give is any accuracy, repeatability, measurement range or long-term stability figure for the new instrument — so the widely circulated specifications for earlier gas density meter models cannot be transferred to GD80 on the strength of this announcement.

On the control-system side, hydrogen-cooled turbine monitoring lands in a familiar place: the AGS813-S10 turbomachinery I/O module is the CENTUM VP component class used for turbine instrumentation, and boiler and furnace protection loops typically already carry a 95DSS3-1 InSight II flame scanner, a SOR 107AL low differential pressure switch for burner management air and fuel differential, and a UT32A-000 single-loop controller for local setpoint duties. Because the new density meter talks Ethernet and RS-485 rather than only 4-20 mA, plan the network around it: an ALE111-S50 Ethernet communication module, an ALR111-S01 RS-232C serial module for legacy serial paths, and a managed switch such as an Allen-Bradley 1783-BMS20CGN Stratix 5700 or a Schneider Electric TCSESM083F2CS0 if you are segmenting the process network. What this means for spares and retrofit planning

The unglamorous conclusion is that a 2026 announcement does not retire a 2016 spare. Three practical consequences follow.

Assume two generations in the field at once. Because Yokogawa publishes no EJX A to EJX S cross-reference, a plant that orders EJX S units will still maintain EJX A spares for the installed base for years. Keep both families in the stocking plan, and treat the sensors and instrumentation category as a mixed-generation inventory rather than a clean cutover.

Bus compatibility, not accuracy, is the usual blocker. A plant running FOUNDATION Fieldbus will find the EJX S release names only HART and PROFINET, so the integration work lands on the control system: ALF111-S50 four-port FOUNDATION Fieldbus module, ALP121-S00 PROFIBUS-DP module, or a PROFINET path such as the GE IC695STK010 RX3i PROFINET starter kit if the controller is not Yokogawa. See also the Omron C6 launch and the Nidec Commander S extension for how protocol naming drives retrofit scope in the machine-building segment.

Station hardware ages independently of field instruments. The CI Server change increases the value of keeping the CENTUM VP layer serviceable, because more of the plant's visibility now runs through it. That is the PLC & I/O Modules and I/O Modules inventory — AAI143-S50/K4A00, AAI143-S00, AAV144-S50, SAV144-S03, SAI143-H63, AAR145-S00, ADV161-P50, AAP149 and AAI543-H00/K4A00 — plus the ESB bus that connects them: ANB10D-425/CU2N bus node, SSB401-53 interface slave, SNT401-53/CU1N optical repeater and YCB301-C800 bus cable, with SEA4D-06 terminal boards at the field end and PW482-11, SPW482-53 and AEP7D-25 keeping the racks powered. Field-level controllers and processors — AFV30D-A41252, CP461-50, VI702 Vnet/IP card — and Cables & Connectors complete the picture.

Because the EJX S release states SIL2 and the gas density meter is explicitly a safety-related measurement, the safety loop itself deserves its own stock: SNB10D-245/CU2T safety node unit and SSC60D-S2512 dual-redundant safety control unit in the Safety & Protection range. On the operator side, screen refresh decisions still get made per panel — Siemens 6AV2124-0QC02-0AX1 TP1500, 6AV2123-2MA03-0AX0 PROFIBUS panel, Allen-Bradley 2711P-T10C4D9 PanelView Plus 6, Mitsubishi GT1685M-STBA, Flexem FE6370C and ABB TB825 optical media converter are all in that category, alongside the Honeywell, Siemens and ABB ranges.

Is Yokogawa actually accelerating product iteration?

The claim is testable, because Yokogawa publishes a dated press-release index. Across 2026 the index carries sixteen dated releases from 19 January to 16 October. Only three of them are new or updated industrial automation products: the EJX S, the CI Server version and the gas density meter. Two more are product releases from Yokogawa Test & Measurement, a separate business — the WT1500 precision power analyzer and the CT500SA and CT200SA split-core current sensors. The remaining eleven are partnerships, project wins, certifications and investment news: the Rolls-Royce SMR control and data-processing agreement, the ANYbotics integration of OpreX Robot management software with ANYmal inspection robots, the CMC Solutions predictive emission monitoring agreement, the Semantum investment for data modelling and digital twins, the Cosmo Eco Power wind-plant controller and battery order, the CENTUM VP and ProSafe-RS cybersecurity certification, the O-PAS OPC UA profile certification, the BuyCo distribution agreement, the Slovenia hydrogen ecosystem memorandum, the Kawasaki Heavy Industries integrated automation orders for a liquefied hydrogen carrier, and the scale-up of a tropical-climate AI data centre testbed in Singapore.

So the honest answer is: process automation is seeing roughly one significant OpreX product event per quarter, and the visible increase in announcements is concentrated in partnerships and certifications rather than in hardware. That pattern is consistent with what the other vendors in this space are doing — see Rockwell's CompactLogix 5390 Japan launch, Rockwell's FactoryTalk Conductor AI agents, and Schneider Electric's PTC acquisition. For the security backdrop against which all of these launches now sit, read PHP2Shell and industrial web interfaces and CISA's 29 October ICS release roundup.

Buyer checklist before you specify any of the three

  1. Ask for the base accuracy class, not the option. If ±0.025% matters to your control loop, confirm the /HAC price, lead time and whether it changes the order code you already stock.
  2. Confirm the bus before the transmitter. The EJX S release names HART and PROFINET only; get FOUNDATION Fieldbus or PROFIBUS PA support in writing if your plant runs it.
  3. Do not accept a SIL3 claim on the strength of this release. SIL2 is what is stated. If your loop needs SIL3, require the certificate and the standard edition.
  4. Check the Japan-versus-rest-of-world timing. EJX S sales began 9 March 2026 outside Japan and are scheduled to start in September in Japan — regional stock and support maturity differ.
  5. Treat the explosion-proof density meter as a 2027 item. Hazardous-area hydrogen projects starting now need either the non-explosion-proof instrument in a safe area with separate segregation, or an interim solution until the GD802S ships.
  6. Ask for the missing numbers in writing. For GD80: accuracy, repeatability, span and drift. For CI Server: licence model and the CENTUM VP versions supported. For EJX S: the EJX A cross-reference table.

Frequently asked questions

When did Yokogawa release the EJX S pressure transmitter?

Yokogawa announced the OpreX Pressure Transmitter EJX S Series on 26 February 2026. Sales commenced on 9 March 2026 in Southeast Asia, China, North and South America, Europe, Oceania, the Middle East, Africa and India, with Japan scheduled to start in September 2026.

Is the EJX S an upgrade of the EJX A series?

No. The release describes the EJX S Series as the successor to the EJX A lineup, built on the same silicon resonant sensor technology with improved accuracy, long-term stability and durability. Yokogawa does not state that EJX S units are drop-in replacements for specific EJX A models, and no part-number cross-reference is published.

What is the accuracy of the EJX S series?

The release states an accuracy of ±0.025% only with optional specification code /HAC. The accuracy of the base specification is not given. Series figures that are stated without an option code are long-term stability of ±0.1% per 20 years and rangeability up to 400:1.

When is the new Yokogawa gas density meter available for hazardous areas?

The non-explosion-proof version went on sale on 16 October 2026. Versions supporting the IECEx certification system and the ATEX Directive, including the GD802S explosion-proof converter, are planned for the end of April 2027.

What does the OpreX CI Server update actually add?

Three things, all at the operator layer. Operators can directly access specific CENTUM VP HIS operation and monitoring windows while keeping the same screens and operability, with connected system screens available through a remote desktop. The OPC UA server information model now supports multiple information models for equipment from different vendors. And CI Server supports the Yokogawa IT Security Tool, a hardening package based on the CIS Benchmarks.

Is Yokogawa releasing new products faster than before?

The 2026 press-release index lists sixteen dated releases between 19 January and 16 October 2026, of which three are new or updated industrial automation products and two are Yokogawa Test and Measurement instruments. The remaining eleven are partnerships, projects, certifications and investment news, which points to about one significant automation product event per quarter rather than an accelerating hardware cadence.
